Unshaven Hair Transplant
Hair transplantation is one of the most common cosmetic procedures among men today. It is now possible to perform a hair transplant without shaving or clipping the hair down to zero, using a technique known as unshaven FUE.
Male hair loss usually begins with receding at the temples. The front hairline disappears, then the crown gradually thins until the front and back areas meet and the top of the head becomes bald. Especially when only the temple corners are affected, there is no need to shave all of the hair. Where the hair has thinned and there is enough space between existing hairs, FUE hair transplantation can be performed without shaving.
In men whose hair at the back of the head is around 4 cm long, two strips about a finger’s width each are shaved and then covered by the longer hair. Within just 2–3 days, the patient can have natural-looking hair, without a shaved head, in a way that nobody will notice.
What is the difference between unshaven and shaven hair transplants?
Unshaven hair transplantation is one of the methods men prefer. In a shaven transplant, the hair has to be clipped very short, because shaven FUE is required for dense transplants where the crown is completely bald and an average of 3,000–5,000 grafts is needed. The unshaven FUE method is used when the area to be treated is small and thinning enough to allow grafts to be placed between existing hairs. Women choose this method as often as men do.
What happens after an unshaven hair transplant?
The unshaven FUE method follows the same recovery process as other hair transplant techniques, and it is important to follow your doctor’s advice. The hair begins to grow within the first 3 months. From the 6th month onwards, growth accelerates, and the final result starts to become apparent by the end of the first year. Once the process is complete, the transplanted hair can be styled however you like.
