This speciality deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of movement limitations caused by congenital or acquired muscle, nerve and skeletal problems, as well as neurological diseases, orthopaedic problems, herniated discs, paralysis, trauma, pain, osteoarthritis, loss of function after surgery and other conditions. Physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists use many different forms of treatment for loss of function and movement, which can develop differently in each person.
The aim of treatment is to eliminate the impairment caused by various diseases and injuries and the conditions that reduce the patient’s quality of life, to increase the potential for independent movement, and to relieve existing pain and complaints. Modern rehabilitation techniques are also used to restore movement after sprains and injuries sustained during sporting activities.
